These terms are the simple rules for using Cape Vine Master (capevinemaster.com). By using the site or creating an account, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. About Cape Vine Master
Cape Vine Master is a free guide to South African wine farms, with short courses, certificates and a Wine Passport. The site is run by Marthunis J Barnard. You can contact us at info@capevinemaster.com. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information.
2. Who may use the site
This site is about wine and is for adults of legal drinking age. You must be 18 or older to use it or to create an account. By continuing, you confirm that you are.
3. Your account
- Give accurate details when you sign up, and keep them up to date.
- Keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- You may sign in with Google or Facebook if you prefer. The provider’s own terms apply to that account.
- You can ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing us.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or misuses the site.
4. Courses and certificates
Courses and quizzes are free and for general interest and education. They are not professional advice or a formal wine qualification. We do our best to keep them accurate, but wine facts, places and details change, and we cannot promise there are no mistakes. Certificates show that you completed a course on Cape Vine Master only.
5. Wine Passport, Vine Points and badges
- Marking a farm as visited, earning Vine Points and unlocking stages or badges is for fun. They have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money or goods.
- Please only mark farms you have really visited. A GPS-verified visit is checked against your location, with your permission.
- Private cellars are not part of the Wine Passport, but you can save them to your wishlist.
- We may correct, remove or reset points, stamps or badges that were earned by mistake, by misusing the site, or by faking visits.
- We may change how the Passport, points and badges work, or end them, at any time.
6. Farm information
Information about farms (opening hours, tasting fees, wines, prices, contact details, whether a farm is open to the public, by appointment or a private cellar) comes from the farms, public sources and our own research. It can change without notice. Please always confirm with the farm before you travel. We do not run these farms, we are not responsible for what they offer, and any booking, purchase or visit is between you and the farm.
If you are a farm owner, you promise that the information you give us is accurate and that you have the right to share it, including any logos and photos. We may edit or remove listings.
7. Drink responsibly
Enjoy wine responsibly. Never drink and drive. Plan a designated driver, a guided tour or a ride service before a day of tastings. Nothing on this site encourages excessive drinking.
8. How you may use the site
Please do not:
- break the law or use the site for anything harmful or misleading;
- try to get into accounts, systems or data that are not yours, or disrupt the site;
- use bots or scripts to collect content, fake visits, or cheat points;
- post or send anything abusive, unlawful or that infringes someone else’s rights.
9. Our content and your content
The text, design, courses, images and brand on Cape Vine Master belong to us or are used with permission. You may view them and share links, and use them for your own personal learning. You may not copy, republish or sell them without our written permission. Farm logos and photos belong to the farms.
If you send us content (for example in an enquiry), you give us permission to use it to run and improve the site. You remain responsible for it.
10. Links to other sites
The site links to farm websites, maps and social media. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for them.
11. Availability
We try to keep the site running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error free. We may change, pause or remove features, courses or content at any time.
12. Our responsibility to you
We provide the site as it is, free of charge. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that results from using the site or relying on its information, including from a visit to a farm. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other South African law that cannot be limited, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date shows when. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the new terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
