Drive over Sir Lowry’s Pass and you arrive in the green, peaceful Elgin Valley. Once known mainly for apples, the area now ranks among South Africa’s most exciting cool-climate wine regions.

High altitude, ocean breezes and regular cloud cover keep temperatures low through summer. As a result, Elgin wines show finesse and natural freshness. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling are particular highlights.
