Durbanville was once a farming village called Pampoenkraal. In 1836 it was renamed after Sir Benjamin D'Urban, the governor of the Cape at the time. Today it is part of Greater Cape Town, but the hills around it are still farmland.
Wheat and sheep farms gave way to vineyards, and the area is now one of Cape Town's best-loved wine valleys.
Sir Benjamin D'Urban gave the town its name.
Farming here began with grain and sheep.
Many farms look across to Table Mountain.
