Hemel-en-Aarde is Afrikaans for Heaven and Earth. The name is usually linked to the beauty of the valley and the view across it. It lies just inland from Hermanus, near Walker Bay.
The wine story here is young. In 1975, Tim Hamilton Russell planted vineyards, and Hamilton Russell Vineyards became a pioneer of cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in South Africa. Other farms followed.
