Worcester lies in the Breede River Valley, east of the Du Toitskloof mountains. It is a farming town surrounded by vineyards, orchards and olive groves, and it is one of the biggest wine-producing districts in the country.
The valley is warm and dry, and irrigation from the Breede River makes the farms productive. Many wines made here are also blended and bottled elsewhere, so you may have tasted Worcester grapes without knowing.
Often quoted as roughly a quarter of the country's wine.
Many farms also press olive oil.
The river irrigates the valley.
