The Klein Karoo Wine Route stretches across a semi-desert landscape of dramatic mountains, river valleys and small towns. From Montagu and Barrydale to Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn, it is a road trip full of surprises.

Hot days and cool nights suit fortified and sweet wines especially well. Therefore, the region is best known for port-style wines and Muscadel. That said, many cellars also craft fine reds, fresh whites and smooth brandy.
