Discover the Orange River Wine Route

The Orange River Wine Route is one of the world’s most unexpected wine regions. Around Upington, Keimoes and Kakamas, vineyards and date palms create a ribbon of green through the red sands of the Kalahari.

The river makes winemaking possible in this hot, dry climate. Here, you will find fresh whites, fruity reds and luscious sweet and fortified wines. The region is also a major grower of table grapes and raisins.

Why visit

  • A rare chance to taste wine grown on the edge of the desert
  • Sweet and fortified wines that suit the warm climate
