Discover the Stellenbosch Wine Routes

Stellenbosch is the heart of the Cape Winelands. Founded in 1679, the oak-lined university town is surrounded by mountains, valleys and more wine farms than you could visit in a month.

Varied soils, slopes and sea breezes allow almost every grape to shine. However, Stellenbosch is most celebrated for Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux-style blends and Pinotage, a grape first created here. To make planning easier, the area is divided into five subroutes.

Why visit

  • World-class Cabernet Sauvignon, red blends and Pinotage
  • Five subroutes, each with its own scenery and character
  • Historic Cape Dutch estates, galleries and sculpture gardens
  • A lively town centre full of restaurants and cafés
